Travelogue

Our wonky figure of eight route through France, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, France, Belgium and once again, France.... is now complete. We're in Calais and will be sailing to Dover on Sunday. The adventure is nearly at an end.

But it's not over yet :-)

The ride from Ambleteuse to Calais was a relatively short one, following EV4 all the way. EV4 is quite well put together with a minimum of time spent on roads with anything other than an absolute minimum of traffic. Most of today was spent crossing farmland on single track lanes and we hardly saw any traffic other than other cyclists and a few walkers.

EV4 - a European cycle route we'll probably revisit

We stopped in Wissant for coffee. We knew that we wouldn't be able to get into our apartment in Calais until mid-Afternoon, so we had time to spare and took our time to enjoy the excellent coffee, the accompanying chocolate cookies and just for good measure, a second round of coffees.

The next 15 miles or so were straightforward and uneventful, once again largely passing along country lanes.

We cycled along the sea front into Calais and stopped at the end of our final part of EV4.

From there, we left EV4 and cycled a short distance along the streets of Calais to our apartment for the next two nights, passing the Tour de Guet on the way.

Colourful Dolphin fountains near the watchtower!

The apartment's great. Modern and comfortable and in a part of Calais with bars, restaurants and supermarkets close at hand.

Our last two days of cycling, which will both be in England are both going to be quite hilly and so tomorrow is most definitely a proper rest day. There will be no hiking tomorrow :-)

Fin.
