Travelogue
We left our lovely hotel in Vaduz early this morning and set off on our bikes alongside the Rhine, initially on the Liechtenstein side but quite soon, crossing over a bridge to Switzerland. The border was indicated on the bridge so we took photos.
Cycling on the Swiss side of the Rhine, the EV15 route that we're now following to the Netherlands, veered away from the river and we crossed farmland on delightfully quiet paved lanes. We were heading roughly north at this stage and so M1 moved the solar panel to the rear of The Mule and set it up to hang over the side facing east and into the sun.
Eventually and not surprisingly, we found ourselves alongside the river again. And before we knew it, we'd crossed yet another national border, passing from Switzerland into a corner of Austria. We decided that it was essential that we found something Austrian to eat and drink before we crossed back into Switzerland and so detoured a mile or so and found a cafe by a small stream and fields. We had delicious pastries and their own cola drink. Both hit the spot.
A while later, we crossed back into Switzerland but when and where, we're not sure because this time there were no signs. We were now heading roughly west with the sun behind us and once again, M1 moved the solar panel so it was fixed on top of the panniers and facing the sun.
We saw dozens of White Storks in fields and lots of amazing Black Kites.
But amazing as this was, it was not as amazing as witnessing M2 cycle with no hands! It was truly an incredible sight. She went on to pull a series of sick wheelies after this. There really was no stopping her. And one of these things really did happen!
Heading west, we soon came to Lake Constance. We'd been looking forward to cycling alongside it but it turned out that EV15 is set back from the lake and most of the time you can't actually see it. As we got further west though, things improved and the lake was by our right side most of the time.
We stopped at a small supermarket and just about managed to put together the ingredients for camping mush although with no couscous available or anything like it, tonight's mush will be served in soft tortilla wraps.
The camp site is large and seems to contain all the things that M1 hates in a camp site. And yet somehow.... it's very nice! The staff were friendly and helpful, we found a rare shady spot and the facilities are modern and spotless. That'll do nicely.
115 km. Three countries. One day.
